Following the June, 2005 Quarterly Science meeting focused on Urban Design, a studio was developed at Columbia with the participation and sponsorship of the Baltimore Department of City Planning, spearheaded by Thor Nelson, urban designer at the BDCP.

Students explore ways to make suburban shopping malls better connected to inner city shoppers while also designing a rainwater retention system.


Students have incorporated Claritas PRIZM “life style” research results from the demographic and social group of BES.
