Opportunities for Educators - Workshops for High School Teachers: Investigating Urban Ecosystems Series

Exploring Watersheds in Baltimore

BES science educators and scientists teamed up to present a 2-½ day workshop to nine high school science teachers on exploring watersheds in Baltimore. The workshop was based on a unit developed by BES Education Fellow Martin Schmidt, a high school science teacher at McDonogh School, an independent school in Baltimore County. Schmidt developed the unit in close collaboration with the entire BES Stream and Watershed Team. The workshop provided mini-lectures by hydrologists, a watershed tour, exercises with water quality data sets, and ample opportunity to review the Watershed Unit and develop individualized plans for classroom implementation.
