Greening Schoolyards in Baltimore

Abstract: Work is currently underway to remove impervious groundcover that covers many schoolyards in Baltimore, making way for improved infiltration and stormwater management. Greened schoolyards also provide opportunities to enhance student learning with outdoor learning spaces. Parks & People is working with the Baltimore City Department of Education and several other organizations and agencies to develop plans for greening schoolyards across Baltimore. We have also developed modular plans and designs that will enable schools and students to develop a schoolyard greening plan to meet their needs and interests.
