2011 BES Annual Meeting Presentation and Poster Abstracts Environmental Stewardship Among College Students Brown, Danielle D. Co-Authors: Tommy Parker; Danielle D. Brown Abstract: College students have been an important component in many of the movements that have shaped society. The current environmental stewardship or "go green" movement is no exception to this. However, it is not fully understood what motivates students to participate in "go green" activities. We surveyed over 1,100 students from 18 universities throughout the United States to examine factors influencing student participation in "go green" activities. The objectives of this study are: (1) describe the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to environmental stewardship among college students, (2) examine the effects of educational and demographic characteristics on environmental stewardship activities, and (3) compare environmental knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors across student ethnicities, universities, and geographic regions. |
